Florida State–Georgia Tech football rivalry

The Florida State–Georgia Tech football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Florida State Seminoles football team of Florida State University and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team of Georgia Tech. The schools first played each other in 1902 and then played each other annually from 1992 until 2003 when the ACC created a division structure, splitting the two. Since the ACC initiated divisional play in 2005, the two teams have competed in separate divisions, limiting the teams meetings.
==About the rivalry==
The school that is now Florida State University was known prior to 1900 as the "West Florida Seminary", and from 1901–1905 as "Florida State College" or FSC. In the years 1902–1905, FSC fielded a football team that played intercollegiately, including two games at Georgia Tech. The first game between FSC and Tech was in Atlanta at Piedmont Park on Nov, 7, 1903, won by Tech 17–0. The second game between FSC and Tech was also in Atlanta, also at Piedmont Park, won convincingly by Tech 35–0 on October 8, 1904. In 1905, the state legislature of Florida segregated the state schools of higher learning by race and gender effectively ending men's intercollegiate competition at FSC (which became Florida State College for Women, the men transferred to other schools) until coeducation returned in 1947. Neither FSU nor Georgia Tech counts the two early games at present.
The series resumed in modern times in 1952. In the modern years prior to the two teams facing off as conference opponents, Georgia Tech was 7–0–1 against Florida State. Since joining the ACC, Florida State has dominated the series winning 12 straight before losing at Georgia Tech in 2008.
For Florida State, it is considered a regional rivalry. Georgia Tech is located in Atlanta, Georgia which is the closest ACC team to travel to at 229 miles (369 km). For Georgia Tech, the majority of recent games against the Seminoles have ended when they have been in a position to come away with a win with heartbreaking losses and nail-biting victories. While not regarded as a true rivalry in the strictest of terms, the contests between the two schools have provided multiple late game heroics to take the victory. In the last 10 meetings, 9 games have been decided by less than one score.
